Sheriff's officers rode horses that day to help guide folks to the entry, as well as to indicate to drivers where to and not to park.

There was plenty of free parking available on the grass surrounding the Lane County Fairgrounds. But it was slow getting to a parking place because of so many cars. As a consequence, from the time you drove through the gate and parked you had already wasted 15 minutes.

The line to buy tickets was very long that morning. The wait in line was about 15 minutes, stretching the total time from leaving home until entry to almost an hour. This suggested that next year it would be better to buy tickets ahead of time.

The sky that morning was clear but for a few fluffy clouds low on the horizon. The weather that afternoon turned out to be perfect.

Considering the crush of people waiting to buy tickets, there were surprisingly few ticket booths that morning. This is another argument for buying tickets ahead of time. Also note the risk of "will call" tickets. You would get here only to discover you have to walk a quarter way round the fair to another gate.

Near the entry was a booth that issued wrist bands to young children. The idea was that if a child became lost, the wrist band contained the phone number for the parent.

Also near the entrance was this first aid station. It was early in the fair so the only people present were those that worked in the station.
