A member of the lily family, this flower is also know under the common name Diogenes' lantern. Diogenes of Sinope was a Greek philosopher who was notorious for philosophical stunts such as wandering Athens with a lit lantern during daytime and claiming he was in search of an honest man.

A perennial with multiple upright stems that can grow 4 to 20 in. (10 and 50 cm.) in height.

Its leaves were flat and narrow narrowing to a point.
