A modest and wet sign read:

Survival
Carved by Rex and Ray Losey, 1977
Restored by Ray Losey, 2014
Initially created for Greenpeace, this pole depicts Northwest wildlife: otter, bear, beaver, wolf and eagle with salmon. Each totem is in some way disfigured --a missing eye, lost teeth or otherwise damaged features-- to express the dangers of environmental pollution.
