Hayward Park, Caltrain Station
|
Entrance From Leslie Street
The walk along Leslie Street takes one past many auto repair shops and one business that sold logs and raw lumber. The entrance from Leslie Street lay between an auto repair and the empty lot used by the wood business.

The Southbound Platform Looking North
Here was the boarding platform seen from the southern end looking north. The southbound trains stopped here.

The Northbound Platform Looking North
The northbound platform looked much the same, except the northbound trains ran on this side.

A Typical Shelter
The typical shelter available to protect customers from the sun on really hot days, and to protect from rain on very rainy days. Caltrain has never been noted for its adequate shelters.

Newsstands
Newsstands have become more and more useless in this modern digital age.

A Sign
A sign attempted to be very clear. The top half pointed toward the San Francisco terminus. The bottom tried to explain in words that, "To San Jose/Gilroy use platform opposite."

A Bench
Here we show the typical bench used by Caltrain, but with a protective rust finish. Next to it was a Clipper Card machine (on Caltrain you tag on and off). Beyond that a typical urban trash can.

Ticket Machines
Two ticket machines occupied one shelter. Note that there are not yet any Clipper Card machines there to add cash to your card.

Boarding Assistance Area
The clearly marked "Boarding Assistance Area," included an alignment yellow line used to adjust the train for pickup of folks in wheelchairs and others requiring special help.

The Way To Cross The Tracks
Arms would lower when a train came to prevent pedestrians from crossing the tracks. An "Emergency Exit," allowed those caught on the tracks at the time to exit. Beyond this gate was the path leading to 17th Street.

A Sticker
A sticker defaced the front glass in a shelter. But it used a smiling face to cheer up the mood.

Clipper Machine
Two small signs on the Clipper Card machine instruct the user to, "Don't forget to tag off," and to, "Always have $1.25 on your card," (a logic flaw on all clipper card use).
