Morning Shasta Lake Under Storm Clouds
Shasta lake in the early morning as seen from a housboat. Note the presence of storm clouds. Later this same day, high winds arrose and blew the houseboat loose from one of its ropes, requiring quick footwork to rescue it.

A Bridge Crossed Shasta Lake
A bridge crossed part of Shasta Lake. Here we saw it in the distance and needed a telephoto lens to capture it.

Other Houseboats On Shasta Lake
Other houseboats could be seen in the distance motoring slowly past the shore looking for handy places to pull into and tie up.

White Pole Marks Underwater Hilltop
To appreciate how low the lake water was, note the white pole atop this hill. The instructions at the marina were to watch for white pole jutting from the water because they marked the top of an underwater hill and therefore the risk of running aground.

Calm Winds And Fluffy Clouds
The winds finally died down around noon leaving behind a smooth reflective surface. Here that smooth lake top reflected the fluffy clouds, the remainder of a small storm that passed over the night before.

Shasta Lake Near Sunset
A speedboat motored past in the late evening. That same speedboat created a severe wake that rocked the houseboat a minute after this shot was taken.

Clear Water Reflects Brown
Even though the water of Shasta Lake is clear, here the reflection off brown rocks caused the water to appear brown.

From Shore Shasta Lake Appeared Tiny
The water of Shasta Lake was so low in the autumn that the huge lake itself appeared tiny from that abandoned shore.

Vast Shasta Lake
When seen from down on its surface, Shasta Lake appears vast. So vast that complex inlets on the opposite shore were invisible over that distance.
