Entry At Road's End
Entry to the park was at the end of Pierpont Boulevard. A gate was open and past the gate was parking. There was no entry fee and the parking was free.

Other Rules In Spanish
Two other signs just inside the park were printed in the Spanish language. The upper sign read: Parque se cierra al atardecer And the lower of the two signs read: El consumo de bebidas alcolicas es prohibido por ley solamente con permiso

Free Parking
The parking lot was copious and not full that afternoon. Shade trees would have been a better choice than palm trees for a parking lot.

Wide Lawns
Wide lawns provided plenty of space for all sorts of activities ranging from flag football, to Frisbee, to playing catch, or to just plain running for fun.

Picnic Tables and Benches
Picnic tables were available near the ocean side of the park. Also benches dotted the sidewalks that overlooked great views.

Next To A Marina
The park was just across the water from a rich neighborhood with lots of floating docks.

A Bench On Which To Relax
Paths wound along the water's edge of the park. One bench provided a place to relax with a view of the Pacific Ocean.

A Day Sail
A day sailing sloop (so called because it lack lights for night sailing) was being sailed on the inside of the breakwater that afternoon.

Boats For Rent And Lessons Offered
In the lagoon behind the breakwater, day sailing sloops were for rent. This was also a sailing club that offered sailing lessons.

Dad Ran
The lack of shade trees in the park required picnic goers to bring their own shade. The demand for shade was reduced in October, but demand would certainly peak in summer. Here a dad escaped the shade to pursue his child.

A Party
A party was held that afternoon. Despite the relative cool of the day, a shade tent had been erected over a picnic table. Balloons, a camera over a fellow's shoulder, and a child suggest this was a celebration.

View Back From Beach
The view looking back from the ocean and beach showed a park filled with people that afternoon. Picnic tables were full and people played on the grass.

One Of Two Beaches
The park contained two beaches. The smaller beach was adjacent to the picnic area and appeared the more popular of the two. Here, most people idled on the sand and only a few braved the chilly autumn water.

Fake Boat And A Zip Line
A fake boat had been erected on the beach and a telephone pole planted inside it as a mast. A zip line was attached to that mast.

Children Enjoyed The Zip Line
Children rode the zip line from the boat, over the soft sand, and stopped at a tire attached to the line. Parents usually jogged alongside really young children when they rode the zip line.

A paved path lead out the top of the breakwater with the lagoon on the left and the ocean on the right.

Bordered By Native Grasses
The paved path was bordered by tufts of native grasses. Wind blew loose sand across the path. A statue was just visible in the distance.

The Larger Beach
The second beach was the larger of the two but much more distant from the picnic area. Access here required a hundred or so yards (meters) of walking and possibly the need to clamber down rocks.

Picnic Area At End Of Breakwater
Another picnic area was available at the end of the breakwater, a goodly walk from the main park. It offered picnic tables and shade and a great view of the inner harbor.

The Path Turned Right
The path turned right and continued out past a statue and out toward the Pacific Ocean.

End Of A Path
A sign that read, "Danger, Restricted Area, Keep Out," marked the end of the path. Like most breakwaters, this one was built of piled rocks and so was inconvenient for walking.

A Survey Marker
A US Army Corps of Engineers survey marker was set into the concrete at the end of the path. Notice that the year was unstamped.

Over time, the path's end became broken and separated, and so grew nearer to its start.

Dangerous Beach
Odd signs at the top of the stairs leading down to the beach warned of danger in two languages: WarningThe sign "Greenock" is the name of the street that ended at the beach, Greenock Lane.
