The "California Republic" lay across the street and to the right of the entrance to the Davis Regal Theater, and to the left of the garage entrance. It was an abstract replica of the California State flag.

A sign was stuck to the surface of the bench. It read:

The "California Republic" Bench appeared as if the white field of the flag were draped atop the bench and the red band a the bottom draped over the front edge.

The red star was attached to the wall behind the bench, so it appeared to move in relationship to the bench, as one walked by.

The bear on the California flag was embossed on the bench's surface and stood straight up. Its rough outline and body color were created from mosaic tiles.

The state name was created from sans-serif black tiles embedded into the surface of the bench.

The bear standing atop the bench was here shown in a closer shot that illustrated its red tongue created using a single red tile.

A view of the back of the bench. Not only did it appear dim compared to the sunlit street, but it also appeared less decorated.
