Rocks, Seen From A White Pass & Yukon Rail Car

Tunnel Wall
A tunnel had been blasted, carved, and beaten out of a rock mountain. This shot was taken using a strobe inside the tunnel.

Rocks Outside Tunnel
Rocks on the summit side of the tunnel as we neared Canada's Yukon. This was part of a cut in the side of a mountain to allow rail to pass.

Rocks Hung Over Train
Some of the rock side of the mountain extended slightly over the train. Despite the appearance of veins and cracks, this rock was solid.

Rocky River
A dry creek bed (the white was snow) was created out of eroded rock. Here, plant growth gradually (over eons) broke up the rock into smaller stones that fell into the creek.

Waterfall Over Stone
One of several waterfalls seen along the tour route. These were fed by snow melt that cascaded over solid rock.

One Boulder Alongside Track
A single dark boulder lay on scruffy grass alongside the tracks of the White Pass & Yukon route. It was a stone alone among solid rock mountains.
