This old bridge, in its day, must have been a dramatic and handsome bridge to cross. It is now bypassed in favor of a newer all steel bridge.

The metal rail and some of the ties were removed from this end to prevent wrongful, and possibly dangerous access.

The metal part of the bridge was built based on triangles and tension/compression. The bridge lacked sufficient give to survive an earthquake.

Wooden End Of Bridge

The wooden end of the bridge appeared match-stick fragile and almost ready to fall down of its own accord. You can see that the top of the wooden end is wrinkled and sagging.

That old bridge spanned a deep river gorge. As you can see, it must have been exciting to cross. It probably groaned and creaked loudly when crossed during its last useful days.
