 These violet tulips appeared white when they first bloomed.

 The violet tulips, that appeared white, grew among growing iris plants. This was an unfortunate location, because they would gradually vanish.

 The violet tulips only appeared violet when looking directly down into them. The violet gradually appeared as if they were being painted from the inside out.
