Two benches provided a comfortable break alongside the trail. Each bench was dedicated to a different individual.

The trail was composed of fairly smooth packed dirt and fenced by cables strung between posts. On either side was restored bay wetlands.

A sign alongside the trail described the Native Americans who were formerly "Living Off The land." Note the jack rabbit silhouette below the sign.

The trailhead was found by following a temporary path fenced in by an orange plastic construction fence.

The foliage alongside the path was dense with weeds and native plants. The density was sufficient to encourage populations of native rodents.

Folks at tables under tent-like overhangs offered exhibits and games that day. Here was one who offered the game of bird bingo.

A beetle was seen slowly crossing the path.

A young jack rabbit loitered on the trail near the beach that morning. It hung out next to a large bush that would otherwise shelter it.

The beach with its ruins of old concrete buildings and chunks of old piers. This nature preserve had been reclaimed from former industry.

This was one of the shore birds seen that morning.

Across the water from the nature preserve was a drydock and other industrial boating activities.

A lagoon near the beach has permanent structures on its far side.

An exhibit alongside the lagoon showed examples of the small creatures commonly found in lagoons such as this one.

As part of the special event that day, spotting scopes had been set up and a man (unseen) insured that each pointed at an interesting bird such as hawks perched on distant stumps.

This is the shore at which the spotting scopes pointed. Far away, beyond the resolution of this shot were shore birds seen up close in the spotting scopes.

Alongside the path near the beach were a few small, bare trees. Dozens of small birds were making a racket in those branches that morning.

One of the booths offered bird bingo that morning. The idea was to spot the birds shown in the bushes alongside the trail. The interesting twist was that they were small stuffed, toy birds.

A family arrived on the trail about to discover all the special exhibits and games specially available that morning.
