The "Water Taxi" sign was on a lamp pole on the sidewalk just outside pier 1 1/2, just north of the Ferry Building.

If one were to walk through the pier building to the water side, one would find another sign pointing the way to the water taxi.

A sign was posted on the gate just to the right of the entry to the water taxi's dock. The sign could be confusing. The water taxi took passengers to Hyde Pier, not to Berkeley.

The water taxi's dock was marked with yellow and black checked posts and flags. The water taxi itself, a small boat, was tied up to the dock and awaited passengers.

The sign described the "Hop-On / Hop-Off" service supplied by the water taxi between pier 1 1/2 and the Hyde Street pier. The sign also described the "Tideline" ferry service to Berkeley, California.
