Levis Plaza Fountain, A Private Parks, of San Francisco, California, A US City Place
|
Massive Block
The fountain was composed of a single central block from the top of which flowed water. The water flowed two directions, towards the camera, and on the far side away from the camera.

Steps Led In
Concrete steps led into the fountain, under the branch of a low, but interesting, tree.

Ambitious
The back side of the fountain was far more ambitious than the front side. This back side featured stepping stones that hovered over the water, and stairs that lead up and over to its other side.

Stepping Stones
The stepping stones that floated over the water were solid to stand on, and did not wobble or in any way frighten the person walking on them. To stand on one of these floating stones was to become surrounded by the soft flow of water, almost erasing the sounds of the city.

Fountain Cascaded Down Steps
The outflow, at the top of this section of the fountain, cascaded down steps. The splashing around the steps turned the edges green.

The Drain
The drain, in the center of the pond at the bottom of the fountain, was large and almost mythic. It almost resembled a whirlpool into which one could be sucked to his or her doom.
