Left to right, Terry Costales, Madeleine Lemire, and a guide explored a small lake alongside the road. The object was to perhaps spot a bird or two.

A couple fulvous whistling ducks were seen perched in a tree on the far side of the lake. Even with a long lens, this was the closest possible shot.

Elsewhere on the far side of the lake, birds dotted the tops of fence posts. Beyond the fence, horses grazed in a field.

A muscovey duck was seen cruising the lake roughly half way out.

Tall grass grew along the border of the lake. In fact it grew higher than the grass in the fields beyond.

The edge of the lake nearest shore was covered with a sparse layer of pond scum. Mixed into the water around the scum were tiny yellow flowers.
