A Plate Under A Bowl
Normally a plate placed under a bowl or cup is called a saucer. But a saucer can also be a plate when food is served directly on it. In this case, the plate is large enough for a small salad or a slice of pie.

A Rainbow Of Stacked Plates
Multi-colored plates stacked on a shelf gave the impression of a muted rainbow. Had the plates been stacked in a different order, the effect would have been more pronounced, albeit still just as muted.
