The event required wedding attired folk to arrive at the Tunnel Top Bar on Bush Street just above the Stockton Street Tunnel.

He was boisterous and camp, and later showed off his homemade "mangina" much to the amusement of the already gathered folk.

One way to approach was along Stockton Street from downtown, then up the stairs at the base of the tunnel.

Brides mixed with normal pedestrians yet not a single surprised head was turned.

One couple arrived, as did many others, but ascending the stairs.

Most of the brides arrived from the direction of Powell and Market where a transportation center was located. It was a level walk along Stockton Street. Certainly easier then the hills of Powell or Bush Streets.

Arriving by ascending the stairs felt like arriving on a red carpet. The brides ascended out of darkness into sunlight and the clicking of many cameras.

Ascent caused the brides to assume poses.

One well-muscled cigar-smoking man-bride appeared to pursue fleeing brides up the entry stairs.

The event was supposed to begin at 2:30 p.m., but brides were still waiting at 2:58. For a few this allowed a break to smoke. The late start also allowed time for late arrivals to appear.

Just before the start, brides had spilled out onto Bush street blocking a lane of traffic.

More brides continued to arrive late. Including a knight with his own horse.

The mob in front of the Tunnel Top Bar had grown so large that a few brides moved to the laundromat across the street to wait.

The lead bride carried a megaphone under a lace covering. He chanted over and over, "The brides are marching!"

As the brides mixed with downtown crowds they caused some amusement and an equal amount of puzzlement.

The brides entered Shreve and Company to shop for wedding rings. Mostly they had a great time just browsing.

A couple with outlandishly great masks posed for a portrait just outside Shreve and Company on Post Street.

Opera singers Robert Close and Litz Plummer who entertain at the entry to Maiden Lane were delighted by the arrival of the brides.

The brides paraded up Maiden Lane toward Stockton Street and across it and into Union Square.
