Man On Crutches
A man on crutches leaned against a truck and paid the lost boys no mind. Pat McCrystle, Sunday 3 January 2010 Wow! Talk about the way back machine. I was a volunteer along with 25 or so other soles recruited to build the booths in SF and then set them up on Tam. Izzy owned a deli on Height St in SF and did catering at the Avalon and had a food booth at the Fair where I helped him sell hot dogs. I remember that we ran out of dogs and buns and driving down the mountain to buy more at a local market. Wow all the memories.

A young man hiked into the fair
A young man hiked into the fair Jan Doss Thursday 23 July 2009 This "Young Man" was my cousin, Bob "Flash" Gray (1946-1990). He worked for KFRC as a freelance artist. He was the idea man behind KFRC's radio promotion called "Flower Power," and actually coined the phrase himself. The idea was to send in a postcard to the station and they in turn sent back tissue paper flowers with a number hidden under the felt center. The station drew numbers for prizes of albums etc. I was the 16 year old cousin who was hired along with my sister to make the flowers.(of course we were paid in used albums!) I was also at The Fantasy Fair working in Bob's "Power Flower and Painted Rocks" booth. Later that summer Bob was the assistant Art Director under Tom Wilkes for the Monterey Pop Festival. He designed the banners that hung behind the stage and the comic book style program. Bob was a successful artist who went on to do many projects, including etched glass art at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial waterfall at Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco. Alexandre Hussenet Thu, 25 Aug 2022 10:08:05 It was actually Sky Saxon of the Seeds who actually came up first with the words "Flower Music" and "Flower Children" to describe the group's fans... "Lord" Tim Hudson, manager of the Seeds
"Lord" Tim Hudson, manager of the Seeds Watched the Seeds Play Anonymous Tuesday 26 October 2021 Is the Marty? I think not. Alexandre Hussenet Thu, 25 Aug 2022 10:08:05 The "unidentified band" Marty Balin is watching from the rear on the pic is ACTUALLY THE SEEDS. Every Seeds fan (and we are legion in todays Garage-punk/Garage-rock scene though unfarly contany IGNORED by yesterday's hipper than thou hippie scene despite being underground pioneers back in the early days) would recognize Rick Andridge on the drums seat!!! Identify now!!! Thank you.
Alexandre Hussenet 27 Aug 2022 06:56:06 Not only is that "unidentified band" actually THE SEEDS; drummer Rick Andridge seated, but the man standing on the aisles is NOT Marty Balin but "Lord" TIM HUDSON, manager of the Seeds, watchin'as the stage manager (or sound engineer) stands talking to a hidden group member, what clearly looks like Jan Savage, SEEDS guitarist, recognizable thru his showing elbow wearing that trademark purple and black striped turtleneck he wears on quite a few promo shots of the band from around that time (mid 1967) You can verify seated drummer, Rick Andridge's pant designs from around the same time.

Marty Balin of the Jefferson Airplane listened to someone backstage. Bill Burgess, Fri 13 August 2010 Does anyone have an archival digitized version of the IJ front page from sat June 10, 1967? Myself and some friends are in that photo of the audience.

Bill Deras, Mon 19 July 2010 Anyone know what ever happened to Yuri, the guy that organized everything? At the entry to the Fantasy Fair, I was the vendor that sold balloons to those entering. The whole balloon thing was initially a bust (no pun intended) until I figured out that breathing in the helium made us sound like the Munchkins in the Wizard of Oz. Scored a lot of balloon sales after that; but, we all ended up with major headaches from breathing in so much helium over two days. Great fun. |
