A one-man band played on the island between The Embarcadero at the foot of Market Street next to the Ferry building. The man had set out a sign that read,

THE DEAD
BATTERIES
WERE GIVEN
OUT FREE OF
CHARGE!
Also note the peace sign in chalk on the sidewalk.
