A sign on the wall next to the entry of the building at 199 New Montgomery described who designed and built the building, as well as the name of the artist and his statue.

Volute was a tall sculpture (roughly nine fee or three meters tall) and stood next to the front entry door of the building. Lights embedded in the sidewalk lit the sculpture at night.

Details on the walls to either side of the front door echoed the design of the sculpture. The details were wall sconces that lit at night.

The Volute sculpture was both glued to the sidewalk and bolted down to it.

The Volute sculpture was assembled with perfect welds.

Steel strips were bent and formed to appear as if made from fabric ribbon. Volute sculpture had just that delicate feel to it.

Horizontal lines remained on the surface of several of the pieces. Those lines were the result of the bending process that was used to create these smooth bends.

Here was a shot of the top of the sculpture as it curved to an end near a recessed light in the ceiling.
