"Before Now"
Looking like tall blades of grass, the "Before Now" sculpture made bell-like sounds when the wind blew through it. The sculpture was made in 2006 by Carolyn Law. It echos that this site was once a saltwater lagoon. A boy waited to bike
A young boy was part of a group practicing their BMX tricks that day. The routes through the practice area appeared to intersect, so the kids had to take turns. As the rules dictated, everyone wore helmets. Behind was the railroad
The rail line ran behind the park. Here were two parked freight cars. The Roaring Camp Railroads ran trains between Santa Cruz and Roaring Camp through Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park . The trips were weekends-only except for the summer months of June through August which were daily. The adult fare in 2010 was US $23.50 for a three hour round trip. A recreation center
The recreation center stood behind the playground. This park was not big and grassy. Instead it offered parking, a playground, BMX bicycle practice and soccer fields. Pacific Avenue dead-ends at the park
Depot Park was a fairly new park at the foot of Pacific Avenue. It was called Depot because the old train depot was located there and a rail line still passes behind the park. In this shot, the view is out from the park's parking lot and toward Pacific Avenue.
