While on a day trip on one of the many small tributaries of the Amazon River, a moth landed on the sleeve of one of the tourists. Its deep black color on the rough cotton sleeve created a striking image.

A moth with an 11 inch proboscis was on display in the Insect Museum internal link of Selvatura Park in Monteverde, Costa Rica. It had been collected in 1998 by Richard H. Whitten.

This moth relied on the texture of the white stucco wall to hide. The shadows of the texture made it appear to be no more than a randomly stuck bit of leaf.
